When a teenage Jason Reeves discovered Bob Dylan and James Taylor, it stirred a new passion in him. He began songwriting, combining the classic singer/songwriter style with modern influences like Radiohead and Sufjan Stevens.

After dropping out of college, he moved around, eventually landing in California. One of the first people he met there was future pop star Colbie Caillat.

The two hit it off immediately and it didn't take long for their friendship to turn into a songwriting partnership that would create the foundation for Caillat's debut album Coco (including the hits "Bubbly" and "Realize"). The songs that weren't reserved for Coco ended up on Reeves' EP Hearts Are Magnets, which was released in 2006 on the Dancing Squirrel label. 2007's critically acclaimed Magnificent Adventures of Heartache helped Reeves ink a deal with Warner the following year.

He is currently in High Dive Heart with Nelly Joy!
